Kirkwood Industries Open House Marks New Beginning

October 20, 1999, Cleveland, OH -- On October 8, 1999, Kirkwood Industries held an Open House for the New Carbon Processing Facility now located on their Cleveland Campus. The Open House was a chance for Kirkwood to unveil the latest of their facilities and introduce their current effort to consolidate Kirkwood's Brush Division with the Carbon Division.

The processing facility is the latest in a series of strategic moves to assure that they are better able to offer their customers increasing value. "We are a specialty materials business that develops materials in conjunction with our customers to meet some of their toughest applications. That is the heart of our business and our ongoing strategy. Our growth is a testament to that strategy," Carbon Division General Manager Harry Barber explains.

The production facilities will be optimally situated to support their engineered solutions strategy of customer support. Barber says, "By situating our production capacities within yards of our R&D facilities, we will be able to better coordinate product development, thereby speeding implementation."

Overall, consolidating its branches helps Kirkwood and its customers by presenting a more unified company, thus providing better customer service and communication. "This was an opportunity for the Carbon Division to move production operations closer to its actual development facilities, offer customers better value and get them solutions on a more timely basis," Barber explains.

During the open house, attendees got a first hand look at the new 25,000 square-foot facility and received a tour educating them on exactly how the carbon brush production process will be conducted. Concluding the event, guests spoke one on one with Kirkwood executives and local politicians in attendance.

Kirkwood Industries is the global leader in the manufacture of commutators, slip rings, carbon brushes and Cortem™ springs for the automotive, power tool and floor care industries, with 9 locations worldwide.
